Welcome New & Returning Families
Welcome Scouts and families to Cub Scout Pack 209. For those new to our pack, we are so excited that you have chosen to become a member of our pack family. To our returning Scouts, we are so glad to have you back! Cub Scouts is a year-round family program for boys and girls. It brings together the scout and their parent(s)/family to work together alongside our volunteer den leaders and committee members. Our mission is to engage our young scouts in a safe, fun, and adventurous manner. To allow them to learn the core values of Cub Scouts; such as citizenship, compassion, cooperation, courage, faith, health and fitness, honesty, perseverance, positive attitude, resourcefulness, respect, and responsibility. We hope they take these values and pursue further adventures in scouting and continue to be wonderful humans within our community, country, and world.

Pack Meetings: Pack meetings are when all of the dens within our pack come together for the same purpose. This could be for games, themed events, common rank requirement lessons, community service projects, ceremonies, and presentations of achievements/awards. A few of our biggest and most favored pack meetings are; Rain Gutter Regatta- Boat Race that uses a boat that the scout constructs and decorate, made from balsa wood and a plastic sail. Pinewood Derby- Car Race in which the scout designs and builds a car made from pine wood, plastic wheels and metal axles. Blue & Gold Banquet- Anniversary celebration of BSA and the pack. A Court of Honor and the Bridging of the Arrow of Lights occur during this event. Rocket Launch- The launching of a model rocket, built and decorated by the scout.
Court of Honor: Our pack Court of Honors are usually held every 2-3 months, for the purpose of awarding and acknowledging the achievements of each scout. Patches, badges, belt loops and trophies may be given during a Court of Honor.
Committee, Leaders, and Parent Volunteers: Our pack committee and den leaders work together to build a remarkable and memorable program for our scouts. To provide them with the knowledge and tools they need for a solid foundation with steady growth as a scout. All leadership positions within Pack 209 are served by parent volunteers. As current leaders move up and on to Scouts BSA, new positions in the Pack and Committee become available. Please check with the Committee Chair to see what is open. We can use all the help that we can get. There may just be a position that suits you!

Parent Helpers - Each year the pack undertakes several short-term projects such as Scouting for Food, Service projects, Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold, Fall, Spring, and Summer Camping trips, etc… Parents are a much needed asset to help these events run smoothly. Den leaders and Committee members are all volunteers, as new dens come in and more scouts are added we are always looking for more parent volunteers for den leadership, den assistants, committee positions and just help within the dens/pack in general. Please let us know if you would like to help.
Fundraising: The pack participates in an annual District popcorn sales event, which typically takes place from August through November. Money from popcorn sales help pay future fees and dues for each scout who participates in popcorn sales. Additional fundraising events/activities may occur throughout the year. Each scout participating earns money towards their own personal scout account.
Uniforms: Wearing uniforms has been a method of the Scouting movement from the very beginning. Decades of experience shows “uniforming” to have many benefits that include; identification, achievement, and commitment. Rank specific uniforms (known as Class A uniforms) are required, and our pack specific T-shirts/hoodies (known as Class B uniforms) are optional, but highly recommended. Class A uniforms are worn for Court of Honors, Blue & Gold ceremony, specific pack events, and titled community events. Den leaders have the discretion to require them for den meetings. Class B uniforms are worn during pack activities like hiking, camping, fishing, game days, etc… When in large groups like pack events, this allows easy identification of children and members in our group.
To purchase Class A uniforms the closest Scout shop is the Dorsey Road Scout Shop 7502 Connelly Dr Ste. 120 Hanover, Md 21076 410-553-6813. Class B shirts and hoodies are purchased through the pack. Youth shirts are $16, Youth Hoodies are $24. Adult shirts and hoodies may also be available.

Patches: When our Cubs participate in activities such as the the Memorial Day flag placement, Scouting for Food drive, Day Camp, popcorn sales, or Benjie's Drive In Camp Out they get a new patch! Ways to display Patches:
- Brag Vest- A “brag vest” that they wear over their uniforms. These bright red vests are typically made of felt.
- Blanket- A blanket is a great way to show off the patches. Your Scout can snuggle under it or hang it on their wall
- Sash- Wear a Cub Scout sash similar to the ones worn by Boy Scouts for their Merit Badges.
- Jacket-I saw a man and his two sons at our Council office who were wearing patch jackets like this one. I loved the idea, so I bought fleece, zippered jackets with a hood and started sewing their patches on.
Handbook: Rank specific books, published by BSA are required for den meeting requirements and electives.
Activities: Our pack is a very busy and adventurous pack. We typically have more than one activity or event planned each month. Some events are Scouts specific like our Raingutter Regatta, Pinewood Derby, and Blue and Gold. Some events are just simply additional fun activities to do together as a group. There are community service based activities and most of our plans tend to support rank specific requirements. All events are optional and subject to additional charges that are not included in registration fees and monthly dues.
